Year after year you ask me
what these jumbled up words mean
So I'll give you a bird's eye view of the wreckage
I'll give you my best guess
I feel like a thunderstorm of hope and despair
Gettin squeezed through the eye of a needle
Only a mist sifts through my lips.

My poetry may as well be my speaking in tongues
But for the one or two they're nodding in approval
They help me keep going for the folks who interpret with a smile.

And the words simply confirm
We are not alone

But I've been planning A big ol' breakup with the folk songs
Cause generally speaking all the kids just want the beat
The smoke
And the dose of disillusionment.
So here I must confess I myself am gathered up
As in a gunny sack I am carried off to market
Another piper is playing His tune
And now I'm singing it too

The words simply confirm
We are not alone

But I've played the bad guy
And I've played the fool

And I painted the corners of suffering
In the hopes of softening the edges
Sang about a frontier too distant
Till I excused the dream from a ledge
And I questioned your notions of God
And the duality of justice found in the wild
And I tortured my jealous eyes from their sockets
Till all I could see was the child

I've said it all as clear as I can
I'm living at the edge of the man
I hope to become…

Says there's so much of you
That wants to get out of this place.
Feel hope, drink fire,
Break down the other side of somewhere new.
